Artist Helgi Thorgils guides guests through his exhibition on Sunday

Next Sunday, October 11th at 12.30 pm, artist Helgi Thorgils Fridjonsson will lead guests through his exhibition Five Crucifixions, Clouds and Marble in Hallgrimskirkja.

Helgi’s exhibition, opening during the Festival of Sacred Arts in August, is a grand one, spreading out over the whole church. Soon after the opening, it quite unexpectedly got in the news as one of the sculptures was mysteriously stolen but fortunately retrieved with the help of the Reykjavik police.

It is an interesting exhibition, raising many questions. Why does a modern painter turn to the classical crucifixion motive? And who is this dark haired man holding Christ’s hand on the cross?

The Hallgrimskirkja Friends of the Arts Society looks forward to seeing all of you on Sunday.
