Trumpets and tears of joy – The second weekend of the Christmas Music Festival is ahead

The Hallgrimskirkja Motet Choir has for over 30 years brought joy to Icelanders with it’s heart-rendering Christmas concerts, an important part of the lavish festivities in Reykjavik. Two concerts take place this coming weekend and the third one next Tuesday night.

This year a brass quartet from the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra will play with the choir. The former half of the concert programme consists of Renaissance and early Baroque pieces, specifically chosen for the ample acoustics of the church. The latter half features rare, English carols plus an abundance of well-known Christmas hymns. It will be a most festive hour in the beautifully decorated church.

The weekend starts, however, with the lunchtime concert of the Schola Cantorum chamber choir of Hallgrimskirkja on Friday December 4th at 12.00. It is ideal to drop by at Hallgrimskirkja in between errands and enjoy a half-hour of beautiful Advent and Christmas music. A true antidote for the December stress!

Tickets for the Christmas concerts can be bought here and at the church.
