SUMMER EVENSONG
Mótettukórinn will sing the summer in at the spring concert in Fella- og Hólakirkja church on the Ascension Day, the18th of May 2023, at 20.00.
The programme takes you on a magical spring walk through a musical landscape where the enchanting Nordic summer poems shine alongside beautiful works by Bruckner, Brahms, Rheinberger, Grieg and Rachmaninoff.
The concert is conducted by Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason who currently stands in for Hörður Áskelsson as a conductor of Mótettukórinn. Bjarni has conducted, among others, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, Caput Ensemble and Bergen Chamber Orchestra. He has also conducted for a number of Björk concerts, most recently in Japan and at the music festival Coachella in Los Angeles.
Mótettukórinn has been one of the leading choirs of Iceland for decades. The list of works performed by the choir over the years is long and diverse. The choir toured in Europe and overseas, sung in some of the most famous European cathedrals, performed on music festivals and won prizes in international competitions. In 2022 Mótettukórinn won the Icelandic Music Award as the Peformer of the Year in Classical and Contemporary Music, having received a number of nominations previously.
