Schola Cantorum concert on Ascension Day May 25th
Schola Cantorum celebrated their 20th birthday last year. In these twenty years the choir has under the direction of Hörður Áskelsson, cantor of Hallgrímskirkja been ambitious in delivering music from old times to present to their audience in the finest way they can. The choir is still going strong, regularly renewing its vocal materials. Earlier this year Schola Cantorum was awarded as Performer of 2016 by The Iceland Music Awards. Its latest disc Meditatio issued by Sweedish label BIS has been widely praised, both for the singing and programme.
In last April Schola cantorum sang five concerts in Los Angeles as it was invited by Los Angeles Philharmonic to sing in the Reykjavík Festival in the breathtaking Walt Disney Concert Hall. The choir also sang the programme of Meditatio in The First Congregational Church of Los Angeles.
Schola Cantorum feels grateful and wants to express its gratitude by giving a concert on Ascension Day May 25th in Hallgrímskirkja, free of charge.
