Ninety years of Nordal – The Academy of the Arts and the Friends of the Arts Society celebrate composer Jón Nordal’s ninetieth birthday

Composer Jón Nordal has written some of Iceland´s best loved songs, one of them a beautiful lullaby to the lyrics of the Iclelandic Nobel Prize winning writer Halldór Laxness. In honour of Nordal’s ninetieth birthday last March, The Icelandic Academy of the Arts and The Hallgrimskirkja Friends of the Arts Society give a festive concert.Nordal

The concert will feature Nordal’s organ works, chamber music, orchestral works and choir pieces, all performed by the talented students of the Academy. Between 70 and 80 musicians partake in the event.

The collaboration between the Academy and Hallgrímskirkja started in 2015 and it´s aim is allowing students to discover the magical Klais-organ and the acoustics of the church and at the same time giving art lovers an opportunity to discover talented and upcoming musicians.

The concert is on Saturday April 30th at 2 pm. Admittance is free.
