Conversation between Erla S. Haraldsdóttir and Jonathan Habib Engquist on the exhibition GENESIS will take place in the foyer of Hallgrimskirkja on Saturday October 29th at 2 pm. All are welcome!
Artist Erla S. Haraldsdóttir has opened a new exhibition by the name of Genesis in Hallgrímskirkja. Genesis consists of seven paintings made for the church narthex. The story of creation is a recurring theme in ecclesiastical art history and Erla makes the tradition her own with the daring colours, thick paint and rich allusions that characterize her work. She amongst other refers to a collection of medieval, Icelandic drawings.
Erla studied painting in Sweden and San Francisco and uses paintings, animations, videos and collages to approach and recreate reality. She has taught and exhibited extensively in North Europe and currently lives and works in Berlin.
