FEAST OF HYMNS- HALLGRIMSKIRKJA – REYKJAVIK CULTURAL NIGHT AUGUST 19th 3-9 PM

On Reykjavík Cultural Night, Saturday August 19, there is an ongoing concert in Hallgrimskirkja between 15.00 and 21.00. Among others is a premiere of 6 new Icelandic hymns, 5 choirs will perform various programs and the great Klais organ will be played solo and with guitar, cello and trumpet! Free entrance- all are welcome!

Artistic Director: Hörður Áskelsson Music Director of Hallgrímskirkja.
The reverend of Hallgrimskirkja, Sigurður Árni Þórðarson, Margrét Bóasdóttir Music Director of the National Church of Iceland and Inga Rós Ingólfsdóttir Manager of the Hallgrimskirkja Friends of Arts Society introduce the program.

3 pm PREMIERE OF 6 NEW HYMNS written by 6 Icelandic organists and 6 Icelandic poets, performed by The Hallgrimskirkja Motet Choir, conductor Hörður Áskelsson. Supported by the Icelandic Church Music Fond. Organist is Björn Steinar Sólbergsson.

3.30 pm The Hallgrimskirkja Motet Choir performs various works from their repertoire. Conductor is Hörður Áskelsson, Music Director of Hallgrimskirkja

4pm Sing-a-long with the Klais- organ!
Schola Cantorum, the prize winning chamber choir of Hallgrimskirkja leads the guests in Hymn singing with the Klais organ and at
4.10 pm sings an a cappella program with various beautiful music from their repertoire. Conductor is Hörður Áskelsson, Music Director of Hallgrimskirkja.
4.30 – 5 pm. Organ recital
Björn Steinar Sólbergsson organist at Hallgrimskirkja plays various organ music on the great Klais organ.

5 pm Sing-a-long! The Icelandic Filharmonia Choir leads the guests in Hymn singing with the Klais organ.

5.10 pm The Icelandic Filharmonia Choir sings a program with various music. Conductor is Magnús Ragnarsson.
5.45- 6 pm. The Norwegian choir – Vestfossen- sings some Norwegian choir music, conductor Gróa Hreinsdóttir.

6 pm Sing-a-long!
The mixed choir of Neskirkja Reykjavík leads the guests in Sing-a-long with the Klais organ.
6.10 pm The choir of Neskirkja Reykjavík sings a program of various beautiful music and the organ is played. Conductor and organist Steingrímur Þórhallsson, Neskirkja Reykjavik.

7pm Sing- a long with the great Klais-organ and organist Lára Bryndís Eggertsdóttir.
7.10 pm Lára Bryndís Eggertsdóttir gives an organ recital with great organ music.
7.30 pm ORGA, Icelandic/ Danish guitar and organ duo play their own music and some transcriptions.
Performers: Þór Arnarsson guitar and Thunbo Pedersen organ.

8 pm Sing- a long – all guests are invited to sing hymns with the great Klais organ!
Björn Steinar Sólbergsson organist of Hallgrímskirkja and Baldvin Oddsson trumpet lead the singing.
8.10 – Trumpet and organ- The outstanding young trumpet player Baldvin Oddsson and Björn Steinar play festive music for organ and trumpet.
8.30 – Organ solo -Steinar Logi Helgason organist, student of the church music department at the Conservatory in Copenhagen plays one of Mendelssohn’s beautiful sonatas for organ.

8.45 pm- 9.00 Organ and Cello- Hörður Áskelsson Music Director of Hallgrimskirkja and Inga Rós Ingólfsdóttir Manager of the Hallgrimskirkja Friends of the Arts Society play music for cello and organ by Rachmaninoff and Saint- Saëns ( The Swan).
