MYSTERIUM 

The premiere of a new oratorio, Mysterium, by Hafliði Hallgrímsson, composed at the request of the Hallgrimskirkja Friends of the Arts Society. The oratorio, which is composed for the Hallgrimskirkja choirs, soloists and orchestra, tells the story of the creation of the world and chosen events from the life of Jesus Christ; birth, life, death and resurrection. The text is written in Latin, which could be said to contradict one of Luther’s reformation emphasis; the use of vernacular languages within the church. Reversely and in an international context, the idea is that with a communal language of the church, which Latin undeniably is, the composition and its message will have a wider possibility of distribution. Special thanks to the Music Fund of the National Church of Iceland and Markus Möller, Paris, who supported the composition of the oratorio.
