The musical group Corpo di Strumenti and alto Hildigunnur Einarsdóttir perform Charpentier’s Leçons de ténèbres and other pieces. The Trials of Jeremiah became the inspiration for a unique music form in 16th Century France called “Leçons de ténèbres” or “lessons in darkness”. These lessons consisted of austere and refined performances of songs during Holy Week. Opera music was banned during Fast, but musicians, composers and singers that were in service at court, could be utilized by the Church in the meantime. The
group Corpo di Strumenti and Hildigunnur Einarsdóttir alto singer will improvise their concert program around the Leçons de ténèbres of French composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier, but will also perform other older lamentations.
