The Trials of Jeremiah became the inspiration for a unique music form in 16th Century France called \u201cLe\u00e7ons de t\u00e9n\u00e8bres\u201d or \u201clessons in darkness\u201d. These lessons consisted of austere and refined performances of songs during Holy Week. Opera music was banned during Fast, but musicians, composers and singers that were in service at court, could be utilized by the Church in the meantime.
