All summer long, Hallgr\u00edmskirkja has resonated with the clear and beautiful tones of Schola Cantorum, the chamber choir of the church. In the last lunchtime concert this summer Schola cantorum offers a various program with some of their favorite Icelandic and international choral music, among others the famous “Nata lux” by Lauridsen and very popular Icelandic Ave Maria by Sigvaldi Kaldal\u00f3ns with soprano solo sung by Thelma Hr\u00f6nn Sigurd\u00f3rsd\u00f3ttir accomanied by the great Klais organ and the choir.
\nV\u00f6kur\u00f3- a beautiful song by Icelandic composer J\u00f3runn Vi\u00f0ar, which BJ\u00d6RK ( Bj\u00f6rk Gu\u00f0mundsd\u00f3ttir) made famous on her album Medulla is sung by tenor soloist Gu\u00f0mundur Vignir Karlsson- accompanied by the choir in a new arrangement.<\/p>\n
Conductor and organist is H\u00f6r\u00f0ur \u00c1skelsson, the Music Director of Hallgrimskirkja.<\/p>\n
Tickets are available online on midi.is and at the entrance one hour before the concert. Admission is 2500 ISK, tea and coffee after the concert included.<\/p>\n
Schola cantorum is the Hallgr\u00edmskirkja multiple prize-winning chamber choir, founded in 1996 by its conductor H\u00f6r\u00f0ur \u00c1skelsson. Schola cantorum was awarded the \u201cPerformer of the Year 2016″ by the Icelandic Music Award in March 2017. Schola cantorum has from the very start played an important role in Icelandic music scene with a repertoire that consists mainly of renaissance, baroque and contemporary music including numerous premier performances by Icelandic composers. The choir gives regularly concerts in Iceland and has given concerts in Norway, Finland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, France and USA. Last April the choir was invited to perform in 5 concerts in the Reykjavik Festival in Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, organized by the LA Phil, and received outstanding reviews in world known newspapers like NY Times, LA Times etc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
