Thursday 10th of August at 12 noon \u00de\u00f3rir J\u00f3hannsson double bass player and Ey\u00fe\u00f3r Ingi J\u00f3nsson organist will perform music together by G.F. Handel, Z. Kod\u00e1ly, Kar\u00f3l\u00ednu Eikr\u00edksd\u00f3ttur and M. Bruch. \u00de\u00f3rir and Ey\u00fe\u00f3r will also premiere a new exciting icelandic piece by G\u00edsli J\u00f3hann Gr\u00e9tarsson.<\/p>\n
Double bassist \u00de\u00f3rir J\u00f3hannsson received his Post Graduate Diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England in 1992. He free-lanced as a musician in Denmark before returning to Iceland in the year 2000 when he joined the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. \u00de\u00f3rir also teaches the double bass at the K\u00f3pavogur Music School and is an active performer, playing both as a soloist and chamber musician and has regularly performed with his quintet in concerts of the esteemed “Kammerm\u00fasikkl\u00fabburinn”. \u00de\u00f3rir has given world premieres to pieces for the double bass alone, bass and piano and a concerto for double bass and chamber orchestra.
\n\u00de\u00f3r\u00f0ur Magn\u00fasson’s Rhapsodie per Contrabasso et Piano was given world premiere in 2011. In 2016 \u00de\u00f3rir made his first contribution to the Harpa International Music Academy as a tutor.<\/p>\n
Ey\u00fe\u00f3r Ingi J\u00f3nsson attained the Cantor Diploma from National Church Music School in Reykjav\u00edk in the spring of 1998. He then went to study at the Pite\u00e5 Acadamy of Music in Sweden, for four years in the Church Music Department and for three years in the Concert Organist Department, with professor Hans-Ola Ericsson. He studied choir conducting under professor Erik Westberg.
\nEy\u00fe\u00f3r Ingi is organist at the Akureyri Church. He founded and conducts the Hymnodia Chamber Choir. His speciality is music from the seventeenth century as well as contemporary music and improvisation, both for organ, and with singers. Ey\u00fe\u00f3r has given a number of concerts, both as a soloist at the organ and with instrumentalists and choirs. Ey\u00fe\u00f3r is Musical Director of the Holar Baroque Festival, The Akureyri Church Music Festival Week and the Akureyri Church Summer Concert season. He was appointed Akureyri Town Artist of the Year 2011\u20122012.
