It is the ninth week of the International Organ Summer 2016 and ahead are exciting events: A new CD will be published, we are expecting a visit from the Queen of Sheba herself and during the weekend we have a wonderful Bach feast.<\/p>\n

Schola Cantorum\u2019s new CD<\/strong><\/p>\n

Influential and extremely beautiful choir pieces make up the repertoire of chamber choir Schola Cantorum\u2019s new \"9070-2\"CD, Meditatio, published by renowned Swedish label BIS on Wednesday August 10. The music is all written in the
\n20th and 21st century, expressing bitter grief and loss of dear ones, simultaneously filled with the powerful hope
\nand comfort music can provide. Schola Cantorum celebrates the publishing of Meditatio with a concert at Hallgr\u00edmskirkja on Wednesday August 10 at 12 noon and invites concert guests for coffee and tea afterwards. Conductor is H\u00f6r\u00f0ur \u00c1skelsson.<\/p>\n

Tickets are at the entrance from 11 am on the concert day. Admittance is 2500 ISK. The CD can be purchased after the concert.<\/p>\n

A visit from the Queen of Sheba<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Queen\"Sigr\u00ed\u00f0ur of Sheba herself will sing in Hallgr\u00edmskirkja on Thursday August 11, with mezzosoprano Sigr\u00ed\u00f0ur \u00d3sk
\nKristj\u00e1nsd\u00f3ttir performing a lovely aria from Handel\u2019s oratorio Solomon, accompanied by organist and conductor H\u00f6r\u00f0ur \u00c1skelsson on the magnificent Klais-organ. \u00c1skelsson and Kristj\u00e1nsd\u00f3ttir have collaborated before, resulting in their nomination for the Icelandic Music Awards. On the programme are furthermore the aria Buss und Reu from the Mattheus Passion of J.S. Bach, an Icelandic folk song and organ pieces by Bach.<\/p>\n

Tickets are at the entrance from 11 am on the concert day. Admittance is 2000 ISK.<\/p>\n

A weekend Bach feast<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Hamburg<\/a><\/p>\n

Fantasias, Fugues and Concertos by J.S. Bach will resonate in the huge nave of Hallgr\u00edmskirkja during the weekend, with German organist and conductor Christoph Schoener\u2019s concerts. Schoener, organist at the famous Michaeliskirche in Hamburg, has specialised in performing Bach\u2019s works both on the organ and with his choir. On his weekend programme is the renowned Toccata und Fugue in D, performed both at the Saturday and Sunday concert. Also on the programme are romantic, German organ pieces by Brahms, Reger and Scumann along with a work by the Swiss Lionel Rogg.<\/p>\n

Saturday August 13: Concert at 12 noon. Tickets are at the entrance from 11 am on the concert day. Admittance is 2000 ISK.<\/p>\n

Sunday August 14: Concert at 17 pm. Tickets are at the entrance from 16 pm on the concert day. Admittance is 2500 ISK.<\/p>\n
