The International Organ Summer in Hallgr\u00edmskirkja is looking ahead to a week full of angels, hymns, sunshine and coffee! Chamber choir Schola Cantorum\u2019s weekly Wednesday (July 20) lunchtime concert is in it\u2019s place with lovely, Icelandic choir pieces and folk songs. All concert guests are invited for a nice cup of coffee or tea and a sweet bite after the concert, a wonderful chance to meet the singers and get aquainted with the lively and ambitious arts society of Hallgr\u00edmskirkja church. The concert starts at 12 noon.\"3239\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Tuesday (July 21) at 12 noon brings the organ concert of J\u00f3n Bjarnason, cantor of the Sk\u00e1lholt Cathedral in South Iceland. Bjarnason will conjure a flock of angels out of the magnificent Klais organ of the church playing Messiaen\u2019s Les Anges<\/em> from the famous piece La Nativit\u00e9 du Seigneur<\/em>. Also on his programme are Bach\u2019s Prelude and Fugue in D major<\/em> and two of his own compositions based on Icelandic hymns.<\/p>\n

On Saturday at 12 noon (July 23) and Sunday at 5 pm (July 24) we have a guest from Latvia\/Sweden at the keyboards. Ligita Sneibe is a Latvian organist living in Sweden and will be bringing with her a share of the summer sun of those countries. Two of the works on her programme are about the sun: Pastorales for a Summer Flute<\/em> by Imants Zemzaris describes a summer day from dawn till nightfall and Solkraft<\/em> by H\u00e5kan Sundin tells of the warmth, light and life provided by the sun. Truly fitting for the high summer season in Iceland with it\u2019s endless sunlight.\"141107_0027\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Sneibe also will be performing classical organ pieces: J.S. Bach\u2019s Fantasia and Fugue in G minor<\/em> and Toccata and Fugue<\/em> in F major, a chapter from Messiaen\u2019s La Nativit\u00e9 du Seigneur<\/em> and Liszt\u2019s Prelude and Fugue on BACH<\/em>.<\/p>\n
